Cross Browser Compatibility

It's a long road to compatibility. Not all browsers chose to implement the standards, specifically css standards the same way. They did not implement them the same in subsequent versions of the same browser. The use of the "DOCTYPE" tag helps the browser evaluate the page content for proper rendering. There is a series of choices that must be made in the design and development process. The questions are answered in relationship to time and dollars. It is possible to build absolute browser compatible code, but most of us don't have the time or money to do it.

An additional consideration in this area is the consideration of the resolution in which the page is viewed. We all chose to set our screens to a particular setting and come to believe that the entire world sees our pages the same way. Just as newspapers give serious consideration to what goes above and below "the fold" of the page, the designer of a web page must consider things such as white space, images font size and most of all scrolling. May studies have been done on eye leading in a design, and it is very significant in the perception of a web page.
