Fitness Program

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to encourage good health for kids and their families through greater awareness of eating well and exercising. We want to raise the level of human healthiness on earth and especially make Hawaii a better place to live.


Registration begins on March 15 and finishes on April 15, the official ending of the contest is June 15th, 2007.

The staff of "Cooking With Cutty" in partnership with West Hawaii Community Health Center (WHCHC) are initiating Cutty's Keiki Fitness Challenge. This event is a three month health promotion for Keiki 8-16 years of age and their families. Our purpose is to motivate children to make healthy lifestyle choices by promoting physical activity, healthy eating habits, and feeling good about who they are. In addition, our project will also encourage parents to engage with their children and become good role models by increasing their own level of physical activity and making healthier lifestyle choices concerning diet and nutrition.

We expect to register 750 Keiki and their families statewide who will accept the three month challenge. All participants will register through their local community health center or satellite sites. They will need a basic health check up pre- and post-Challenge using key health indicators such as height, weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), Body Fat % Index, past medical history, and current medications. Cholesterol and blood glucose testing are optional. Activity fitness will also be evaluated. Exercises such as sit ups, push-ups, jumping rope, and vertical jump will also be tracked for overall fitness improvement.

Get fit: Just by being active you can improve your fitness level! Get lots of physical activity every day - at least 30 minutes. It really doesn't matter what you do as long as you have fun doing it. Try it right now - stand up and do 25 jumping jacks or just march in place. Can't think of things you like to do? There will be lots of exercises and activities listed for you in your Get Fit Backpack that will be fun and make you feel great!

Record your activities: You'll have your personal journal on line to keep track of all your activities and exercise. We've even put a writing pad in your Get Fit Backpack so you can jot down what you've accomplished while you're out having fun! All you have to do is go to your Web journal page and record what you did every day. It's that simple!
